Our Mission

We are an underwriting company that aspires to be a world-class reinsurer and specialty insurer, providing excellent security and high-quality service to our clients.

We seek to maintain a global business focus that emphasizes patient, profitable growth and ultimately supports Fairfax Financial Holdings’ goal to achieve a 15% annual return over the long term.

We aim to meet this financial objective by:

  • Maximizing underwriting profitability and growing invested assets
  • Responding to clients’ needs with local resources
  • Delivering exceptional service to clients and colleagues alike
  • Expanding our global reach through product and territorial diversification
  • Possessing superior underwriting, claims and actuarial expertise
  • Adapting to changing market conditions while maintaining a consistent, disciplined underwriting approach
  • Cultivating a diverse workforce, investing in our employees and providing opportunities for growth within the organization to preserve our culture for the long term
  • Embracing Fairfax Financial Holdings' values and guiding principles

We recognize that our prosperity and good fortune are dependent on our underwriting prowess and our clients’ success; and when we succeed, those in the communities in which our employees live and work will benefit too.

Sustainability at Odyssey Group

With a history dating back more than a century and the supportive ownership of Fairfax since 1996, Odyssey Group has been built to stand the test of time.

As an underwriting company, strong risk management principles are the cornerstone of our business. Today, we have a robust enterprise risk management framework that identifies environmental, social and governance issues as emerging risks that are analyzed and addressed across the organization.

In order to manage the challenges of tomorrow as successfully as we have thus far, we will continue to be guided by Odyssey Group’s Mission Statement as well as Fairfax Financial Holdings’ Guiding Principles.

Environmental

In a world where environmental issues continue to impact our future, we recognize the importance of operating in a sustainable manner and have taken steps to foster environmentally-friendly workplaces. Climate change is a threat to sustainability and, as a matter of risk management, we are committed to managing its impact on our business, as well as our clients and business partners, and responding appropriately.

Community

We are dedicated to making a positive impact in the communities in which our employees live and work. Each year we set aside 1% of our pre-tax earnings for charitable purposes. We established the Odyssey Group Foundation in 2007 and, since then, the Foundation and its business affiliates around the world have pledged over $55 million to more than 400 charities ranging from global disaster relief to groundbreaking medical research.

We are a trusted and committed philanthropic partner to some of the world’s leading organizations. Our contributions have resulted in several significant achievements. Learn about our specific endeavors by visiting the Odyssey Group Foundation page on OdysseyGroup.com.

Culture

We provide employees an innovative, enriching work environment, and take great pride in their career growth and subsequent contributions both to Odyssey Group and their communities. We are an equal opportunity employer with excellent benefits, a strong commitment to training and opportunities to serve around the world.

Fostering diversity and inclusion across our organization is an essential part of Odyssey Group’s long-term sustainability and success. We aim to have an employee base and leadership team that is diverse in as many ways as possible. We continue to strive for diversity through various initiatives that draw candidates with a broad array of backgrounds, perspectives and capabilities.

We recognize that all individuals have the right to mutual respect and acceptance without biases of any kind. We are committed to:

  • Providing a work environment that is free from discrimination in all forms across our global enterprise
  • Providing equal employment opportunities for all employees and applicants based on merit and without discrimination
  • Seeking out a diverse pool of candidates for all open positions
  • Providing scholarships and internships to a diverse pool of candidates within the communities in which we live and work

Governance

Odyssey Group’s Corporate Governance Guidelines reflect our commitment to good corporate governance and compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements. In furtherance of these objectives, the Odyssey Group Board of Directors have a Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and written charters for its Compensation Committee and Audit Committee. In addition, we have adopted and maintained numerous policies to ensure the continuing personal and corporate integrity that is critical to sustainability.
